The Birmingham Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is a 185,000 square foot, three-story state-of-the-art currency and check processing center.  The cash vault is 145 feet long, 38 feet wide, and 41 feet tall, set primarily below grade into bedrock. Robotic equipment is used to transport currency throughout the vault and processing areas.  A two-level dock is required for separate deliveries of currency and checks.  Deliveries are by large trucks and require very large clear span areas to give the trucks ample room to turn.  Special 40-inch deep steel girders were used to frame the check dock to provide a clear span of 84 feet in the currency dock below.

BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama Headquarters addition consolidated various offices of BlueCross BlueShield throughout the Birmingham area onto one campus and allows for future growth.  The new 358,000 square feet of office space is divided into two wings and is adjacent to an existing three-story office building consisting of approximately 430,000 square feet.  A new visitor entrance features a two-story atrium.  A large part of the project was the addition of structured parking to accommodate the new employees and replace the surface parking used as the new building site.  Pedestrian bridges provide access to both new parking decks.
